Foundation Portfolio Presentation of Preliminary Task Self Evaluation - Feed The Fish

We were given a complex script 'Feed the fish' and our task was to develop this script by filming it and editing in our group how we wanted to. My group was Chloe Agata Tom and myself.

The positives of our film were that we used a variety of good camera angles. We used low and high angles, the best use of a low angle was when a character was walking up some stairs and the camera was on his feet as they came up the stairs and followed them as they turned. We used a high angle when the characters were having a conversation witch was looking down on the boss , this showed the character from a different point of view as they spoke.
The zoom shot into the 'Hitch' sign was a good use of zoom, it showed the sign clearly and the camera was handheld whilst doing this. This gave attention to the sign so the audience knew who the character was going to speak to.
The over the shoulder shots of the main charter entering doors worked well as they showed the character entering doors as if you were behind them these were filmed well and steady.
Our use of match on action was positive and negative at times as we had some good match on action shots e.g the character coming through the doors and entering rooms. How ever we did use a dissolve edit on one match on action that did not work and the effect it gave was bad as it seemed as if time was slowed down as the character was moving.
Our use of editing was criticised as we left in some little mistakes such ad the purples doors shutting twice as a character walked through them. Our editing wasn't up to standard as we did not have a lot of time to edit out film, this was because of some of out footage going missing so this meant we had to film it all again.
If I was to make this film again I would make sure that the match on actions were edited with strict precision and timing. I would also make sure I have a variety of shots of the same action just in case one shot doesn't work or if there is any problems with one. I am now going to spend much more time editing my films and always back up my footage so it does not get last again
Overall I would rate our film a 5/10 , this is because all of the school boy errors need to be fixed but we have used good camera angles, some good match on actions and zooms.
